The valuable insight required to determine what should be include or exclude within a project can be gained by undertaking surveys. Typically, surveys are conducted using paper based methods. However, this is a very cumbersome process which require the additional recapturing of data into analysis systems for evaluation and decision-making. This is a long process which can render information obsolete even before it is available for analysis.
One of the main issues that electronic survey tools face is that these systems, both dedicated applications and web based survey tools, are often hampered by the need for sophisticated infrastructures such as internet connectivity to function. Due to the nature of surveys, they tend to require unique customisation to accommodate specific tasks, which require a level of technical or programming expertise to setup.
To address the need for a survey tool that could easily be deployed in the field and can operate in areas lacking in infrastructure led to the creation of QodeDelvy. This tool answers the need to gain quick insight, and when combined with business intelligence tools, can provide an entirely new outlook on the project landscape.
QodeDelvy is a dynamic survey creation tool that is used to generate custom questionnaires quickly. The system consists of an android smartphone or tablet app, as well as a web based management and configuration portal. All data can be downloaded in popular formats for further analysis or evaluation from the portal.
The mobile app is used by the enumerator to capture the data at the point of survey. The app can operate in an online or offline mode and is fully customisable at the click of a button. Multiple surveys can be loaded at once, enabling survey teams to conduct more than one survey at a time.
This is a modular system as the mobile app incorporates functionalities such as GPS location, multiple choice questions, dependencies, skip logic and so forth. Once published, the survey is sent to the mobile device from where the enumerator can conduct the survey. The only time that an internet connection is required, is when the survey is initially deployed on the device and when survey data is uploaded to the database. All information stored on the device is encrypted.
The app can operate in an online and offline mode which allows the system to function in areas with poor cell phone signal or Wi-Fi coverage. All functionality such as GPS is retained when operating offline. Data synchronisation is done automatically, thus the enumerator does not need to receive special training to use the system or upload data.
The web portal is where the survey is created and location where the data captured at point of survey can be retrieved. The intuitive methodology used in creating questionnaires empower teams in compiling exceedingly comprehensive surveys. Entry fields are easily added to the survey at the click of a button, and the user-friendly interface enables users to create customized surveys in no time. Full version control is also included which provides a means of verifying what data has been captured with each separate iteration of the survey if needed.
All data is available for download on the management portal for further analysis and reporting. The system makes use of the latest security protocols which covers all aspect of the system, data transmission and storage. Due to the modular nature of the QodeDelvy, it can be further customised to meet any specific client needs that may not have been addressed in the core system.
Special mentions – The system is being utilised by the monitoring and evaluations unit of the Foundation for Professional Development and has already proven its worth when undertaking surveys in challenging environments.
