Health solutions that brings data to life

Qode does not sell software to humans; we develop software to the benefit of people.

The Solution Revolution

Many organisations still utilise paper-based data collection processes and data capturers to capture the information onto spreadsheets to generate information for programme monitoring, evaluation and performance reporting.

Paper-based systems are time-consuming and often leads to loss of data and compromised data quality as it is suspect to human error during multiple phases of processing and manual reporting. This process inevitably to incorrect or inaccurate data for reporting.

The good news is that this manual process of data collection and processing for reporting can now be something of the past due to advances in Healthcare Technology, this not only reduces the possibility for human error, but avails near real-time access to data for proactive identification of potential areas of concern and facilitate near real-time corrective decision making.

1 Data Collection

Qode Health Solutions makes use of a variety of data capturing methods that originates from numerous data tools and sources. Attention should be given to select the tool that will address the completeness, validity and accuracy of programme data.

Auditors will look for tools that make use of automated application controls. These are controls that are built into the tool that forces a user to enter data into the tool, for each data point, based on specific validation criteria to ensure that the data is valid, accurate and complete.

Data is validated at point of entry by the automated application controls and encrypted before it is submitted to a server via a network, for processing. Data can be collected offline, encrypted and saved to the device until a connection is established to submit the data to the server.

2 Data Integration & Processing

Once data is captured, it needs to be processed into usable and actionable information by consolidating all streams into a single source of truth, hosted within a single database environment, which may incorporate multiple storage technologies. This allows for fast and reliable data analytics, breath-taking algorithms and precise reporting.

All data solutions start with hosting. There are many discussions about which solutions are safer and more cost effective and this really depends on your specific programme needs. An option that is now available to South African programmes (and to those in SADC where legislation does not prevent the hosting of programme data in South Africa) is Microsoft Azure. Microsoft has built cloud infrastructure in South Africa which complies with global security and operational standards. Their hosting environment, Azure, holds a range of certifications, including USFDA, ISO and CFR (for US donor-funded programmes). This greatly assists with Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI Act) compliance, since the data is hosted in South Africa in addition to the hosting environment complying with global security and hosting standards.

We are able to assist you with deployment of an Azure instance for your programme directly with Microsoft. Data can of course also be hosted the traditional way as an on-premises solution. When hosting on premises, however, disaster recover policies and procedures are of utmost importance. The legacy of automated backups and geo-replication is not automatically provided for, like in a cloud environment.

Technology has evolved to the point where data from various sources can be consolidated in a single database for programme performance. We make use of Qode Insight that uses a range of variables to find individual patients in various data sources. An application of Insight would be to match an HIV positive patient tested via the Lynx App to his/her record in public and or third-party data systems, and or his/her blood results from the public and or private laboratory information system. Using algorithms available in Insight, organisations can automatically map patients between all three 95’s without any human intervention. Solutions which can be used in tracking the layering of interventions received by an individual client/patient can effectively be automated, providing a clear picture of patient progress and well-being over time.

3 Data Information Modelling & Visualisation

A well-designed Qode solution provides for real-time reporting to programme teams and management directly from processed data in the database. Technology has advanced to the point where big data solutions can automate reporting directly from databases.

The application of location-specific information is representative and provides both constructive and destructive insights for programme optimization and quality assurance. Constructive insights refer to the provision of operational guidelines (i.e. where, when and whom to maximize results); destructive insights refer to isolating contra-indicative behaviors by reporting suspicious results and/or (in)direct negative contribution to performance.

Knowledge Centre automates all routine performance reports and information, which means that reporting no longer takes days or weeks but only minutes. It further allows for dynamic interaction with information to allow organisations to model information and programme performance through intuitive user interfaces. It is as simple as clicking on your data points and reports are updated.

Knowledge Centre minimizes time away from the manual compilation of data and manual reporting and allows sufficient time to manage programme outcomes by developing new insights from information. Less monitoring and reporting, more evaluation and learning.

Our business intelligence developers include access controls to software that allows different team members to gain access to different reports and at different levels.

Digitization requires no human intervention with the data from the point of care where it was captured by the healthcare professional, to the point where we submitted the report, or where we used the information for automated visualization and decision making by all stakeholder. This is the true value of a well-designed Health Information Management System (HIMS).
