QodeLynx-HCT software system is designed to maximize the quality of care and data captured at point of care, primarily when undertaking HIV rapid finger prick tests. The solution can be deployed at any location including clinics, mobile units, door-to-door campaigns, as well as in areas with limited infrastructure. The QodeLynx-HCT system consists of a native Android app, a cloud server and a reporting portal.
The QodeLynx-HCT mobile application is based on the Android operating system and can be used on both cell phones and tablets. Android was chosen as the platform of choice due to the market penetration of the operating system, low cost of acquiring suitable devices, ease of use and integration ability with other systems. Cost was a significant driving factor in ensuring that a sustainable solution could be achieved. Furthermore, the ability to customize the system makes it a prime candidate for being used in other programs. The mobile application can be remotely updated, thereby eliminating the need to withdraw any devices to accept updates or changes made to the application.
Human error is always an issue when using traditional paper-based methods of capturing data. By making use of an electronic system, all data is validated at the point of care using integrated algorithms which ensures that all input data are as accurate and relevant as possible. The addition of skip logic question flows, with relative dropdowns further enhance the quality of the system. There are various modules and functionalities included in the mobile application such as GPS position reporting, the ability to take photos of documents, signature capture and other functions associated with capturing data. Many processes and functions are automated thereby enhancing the user experience.
QodeLynx-HCT is designed to enable near real-time data capture as well as subsequent analysis and reporting through the portal, or by utilizing the analysis and reporting services we provide. The mobile application also functions as a counselling aid that supports the counsellor in providing the best quality of service to the client. Through the system logic incorporated into the app, quality assurance can be monitored and the impact of policy changes can be quantified more readily.
Near real-time data collection is a reality with QodeLynx-HCT as the system makes use of a data connection for uploads. However, in areas with poor reception, QodeLynx-HCT can operate in an offline mode that stores data securely on the device. QodeLynx-HCT incorporates a full set of security protocols using the latest industry best practice and solutions.
The QodeLynx-HCT web dashboard enables management to monitor the project and draw specific reports required. Reports can be generated in a static or dynamic manner, as the reports can either be pre-determined or they can be more interactive. All reports are desensitized automatically.
Special mentions: During the data audit, testing and roll-out phase of the system, QodeLynx-HCT captured 100% of the tests done, while the paper based system had missing files and incorrect data entered in to the system. The QodeLynx-HCT version 1 system was the subject of a special mention from USAID at the USAID technology show-and-tell in July 2016. According to the statistics taken at the end of January 2017, the system has captured more than 140 000 HIV counselling and testing sessions, and never suffered any failures or downtime.
